~Technical Questions ~
Q: What is a SuperFlat Floor?
A: The word Superflat was first used by the Face
Companies in the 1970's to describe the flatness/levelness required to support full speed,
trouble free operation of Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) lift trucks. For Random Traffic floors,
Superflat is often defined as FF 100/FL50.
Superflat, by definition equals Fmin 100. This
is the Defined Traffic F-Number, it cannot be measured using the ACII CSA/ ASTM F-Number
System. To achieve this high degree of flatness/levelness, Superflat floors must be
placed in long narrow strips. The form for Superflat placements must be set with great
accuracy. Specialized finishing techniques and continuous quality control measurement are
also required.
Q: What are F- Numbers?
A: Floors are measured not only for their flatness, but
also their levelness. Hence the letters FF
and FL simply means Floor Flatness and Floor Levelness. Literature is
available for free from the Face Companies. Contact them by calling 1-800-F-NUMBER.
Q: How do you arrive at the F-Numbers?
A: The industry uses specific measuring devices for
specific floors. An example would be the Profileograph, which is used to measure
Superflats. Another device is the Dipstick® Floor Profiler, which is used to measure
Random Traffic Floors. To give you a better idea of the F-Number system, we have made a CHART, which may be printed as a quick reference.
